Mineral Fulvic Humic’s Chelating Ability

Humic acid is a complex mixture. includes 3 different kinds of acids, in which mineral fulvic acid is considered to be the most important component of humic acid. mineral fulvic acid is rich in hydroxyl and carboxyl functional groups. It plays a vital role as an activator and nutrient retainer of mineral elements in the soil.

One of the main properties of humic acid is its strong chelating ability. It chelates or binds with various nutrients that plants need to grow. For example, in soil with a high concentration of carbonate ions, calcium ions required for plant growth easily combine with carbonate ions to form calcium carbonate.

However, a different situation occurs when humic acids containing mineral-derived fulvic acids are present in the soil. Fulvic acid effectively sequesters calcium ions, preventing them from reacting with carbonate ions. As a result, calcium ions remain free and available for plant uptake, thereby increasing the availability of calcium for plant growth. This process also works for other nutrients, such as magnesium and zinc.
